Photo of the Day

I recently went to one of my favorite used bookstores down on Piedmont Ave and picked up a nice little book on art in the American west which made me think of Ansel Adams. I love much of Adams’ work but this series has particular resonance for me. A photograph from this “Surf Series” is the first photograph I remember ever seeing, projected up on a wall in a dark room in some long forgotten art class. Not vacation snapshots, or billboard advertisements, or yearbook portraits, but photographs as art. These photographs were the first time I registered photography as being crafted by an artist and not just something that was captured by a lens and a button.
