The Courtyard

It’s a rainy and gloomy day here, perfect for staying in with the kitten, some coffee, and trashy British television. We have been teased, as we always are in the Bay Area, by several weeks of beautiful weather, hinting at summer, that promptly disappears into rain and fog. Summer won’t arrive until about July. A few weeks back I got some time in while the sun was here to work on cleaning up the courtyard. There is so much I would like to do (the ladder, the concrete, the horrible hotel) but it’s a rental. So I pulled up all the weeds from the paving and the planters (the succulents in the planters are looking much better now) and planted my little tomato, pepper, and strawberry plants acquired from the farmer’s market. The gross dining table and one of the grills has been removed. The yellow grill is still there, as are the red plastic chairs and the ‘lounge’ set, but it looks better already. B’s sister is moving into the sunroom in their place come June and De might be taking over the bottom unit of my place. So this summer is looking promising. Etsuko, as all good indoor cats must, will watch the proceedings from above.
